I wish pictures could convey the beauty of the Dingle Penisula in Ireland. This is the first landscape that has ever brought me to tears. It goes from amazing seashores to rolling green fields and is dotted with amazing archaeological structures. And everyone speaks Gaelic, even the road signs aren't in English. True beauty I tell you. Once school is over it'll take a Mack Truck to drag me away from losing myself in these wilds.

Cork, Ireland. Absolutely beautiful...the city, the people, the culture. Everyone is a friend, everyone is kind. Hell, they love Bluegrass and make great Irish Stouts. If I were to breathe my last breath in Cork I would have no regrets.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Through the ups and downs of being here I've come to the conclusion that Sundays are the worst day of the week. No more weekend egging you on, seminars and classes looming in the future. Everyone is in the books, quiet, non-existent. The people who are out and about are walking around with their families, talking about where to get lunch, laughing, talking. Yup, I think Sundays are the worst.

Creation of Knowledge

Yesterday I went out into the Peak District to take pollen cores, see different archaeological features, and do some profile work. Finally I had real grass underneath my feet and the sound of running water in my ears. As I was sludging through a peat bog and hiking up hills and playing in the mud something occurred to me. I've left my family, my friends, the woman I love with all of my heart, and I've spent all of my savings doing so. How and why could I do something as stupid as that? Why do I wake up everyday with an ache in my chest, lonely, tired? I left it all behind because I love archaeology. I love playing in the mud and trudging through fields. No longer will I be a consumer of knowledge. From this day forward I am a creator of knowledge. Today I join the Great Conversation. Will my longing settle...someday. Is it all worth it...only time will tell. One way or another my love of archaeology has been rekindled and I'm ready to see where it takes me.

Glacier Nat. Park...unbelievably beautiful. Katy and myself spent 10 days with her parents bumming around. The two of us spent 2 days backpacking into the middle of nowhere (that's where these pictures are from. As if the 14 miles in two days wasn't exciting enough, all of the bears from the opposite side of the park were wandering where we were because of fires. Any animal that shit bigger than Katy's foot is something that I would like to avoid.
